I'm an outsider.
I can only stay inside for so long before I get twitchy, cranky and otherwise unpleasant to be around. I truly don't get those people who can stay inside all day and not lose their minds.
I think it's in the blood. My family is full of sports fishermen, campers, generally woodsy types. I exhausted countless childhood summer days exploring the woods and back roads of Cape Breton, where I was born.
The sharp smell of pine in August heat, the feel of the beach path under bare feet, the stars blanketing the sky above the dark forest. If I believed in a soul, these are the kinds of things that would touch it.
My main interests are astronomy and birding but whatever catches my interest in the outside world will find its way to this site (designed by webmeister extraordinaire Trevor Delaney.) You'll find my written ramblings in the Blog section but I'm in more of a photographic cycle these days so feel free to check out the photos page. On the Skylights page, I try to keep up with what's up in the night sky.
I studied literature and political science at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and I bought my masters degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario. (Excellent sale that year.)
Music is a big part of my life. I've depressed many listeners with my Leonard Cohen and Neil Young repertoire. I’m also an avid reader, particularly American history and dark science fiction in the vein of Iain M. Banks.
